A Short Motorcycle Boot That Gives The Rider The Best Of Both Worlds
The combination of technology and forward thinking by Alpinestars seems to have produced an exceptional all-weather riding boot.
The construction of the boots leaves little wanting after the implementation of mesh material in the tongue and collar and Integrated Gore-Tex XCR membrane that further improves breathability and comfort.
Safety was at the forefront of design priorities for Alpinestars, as is evidenced in the steel and TPU shanks that reinforce areas commonly thought to be weak points. With all of the focus on safety and construction, the design team did not fail to make the boots comfortable for the wearer.
- Upper constructed from a combination of PU coated leather, suede and textile
- Breathable mesh lining on the collar and tongue and features waterproof and highly breathable Gore-Tex® XCR® membrane
- Foam backed, double density impact protector on the both sides of the ankle
- Internal toe and heel counter are layered under the leather
- Hiking boot style lace system with metal eyelets and top hooks
- Wrap-around rubber outsole reinforced
- with metal shank in the heel and a TPU shank in the Plantar Arch for enhanced rigidity
- PU coated leather shift area
- Reflective inserts on the rear of the boot
- Shock absorbing EVA midsole
- Mesh lined, anatomically profiled EVA foam footbed
The CR-4 from Alpinestars features cutting-edge ventilation and construction materials to provide a durable, breathable pair of riding boots. They utilized the durability of leather and suede to form panels of the upper areas, coating the leather in a layer of polyurethane.
The use of lightweight but strong materials makes these boots easy to wear and built to last. Mesh linings on the tongue and collar permit optimal breathability and work with the waterproof Gore-Tex XCR membrane to improve the overall airflow and comfort level of the footwear.
But How Safe Are They?
One of the concerns we have with short boots is the impact the design has on safety. But it seems through the implementation of double-layered, foam-backed protection pads for both sides of the ankle, additional toe and heel layers for rigidity, Alpinestars have achieved a good level of safety with their boots. The heel is strengthened with a steel shank to keep it firm while the plantar arch has a TPU support.
While safety and construction are of major significance, the overall comfort level of the rider while wearing the boots will be the determining factor as far as customer satisfaction is concerned.
The CR-4 XCR boots are treated at the toes with a PU coating to permit painless and comfortable shifting, while the metal eyelets and hiking boot lacing style makes for a snug and sure fit.
The outer soles wrap around the boot and feature textured contours for superior grip. Shock-absorbing midsoles and anatomically profiled foam inner soles help keep the rider’s feet in a natural position and comfortable while walking.
The Alpinestars CR-4 Gore-Tex XCR boots include a generous amount of rider-oriented features that are designed to improve safety, longevity, and overall comfort.
Breathable mesh linings and patented Gore-Tex XCR membranes keep the air flow moving in order to keep the rider’s feet cool and dry. Structural rigidity and ergonomic design keeps the foot in a natural position, while innovative materials are incorporated to ensure a long product life.
These boots look good on and off the bike and are set to be a popular and comfortable motorcycle boot.
“Awesome style with great comfort”
“I was looking for some cooler-weather boots that would keep my feet warm, while also being comfortable enough all day. These fit the bill in spades!
Actually might be the most comfortable shoes I own PERIOD. They look great in jeans, have all the protection features you need, and keep the cool air off your feet while riding.”

The feedback and experience to date reinforces our verdict that it is a quality Gore-tex waterproof protective motorcycle boot. They’re set to become an a very popular boot for adventure touring and commuting.
The only reservation I have is they are a bit too stiff due to the generous protection in them to be a true ‘hiking’ boot. But that’s not their primary purpose anyhow. I’ll give them 4.5 out of 5.
